Story Behind Renewed Furnishings
I’ve always loved listening to people’s stories—and I’ve always believed in their potential to change. In 2021, I decided to sharpen my skills and deepen my capacity to serve by earning both my ACC and ACTC certifications in Life Coaching. That same year, I began volunteering at the Gospel Center Rescue Mission (GCRM) in downtown Stockton, where I had the privilege of coaching Phase 1 graduates through vital life transitions. We worked on everything from building resumes and submitting job applications to practicing interviews and securing transitional housing.
It was during my time at GCRM that I began to notice a gap—one that wasn’t being talked about often. Individuals were doing the hard work: overcoming addiction, securing jobs, and finding housing. But once they received the keys to their new place, many were stepping into empty rooms.
I’ll never forget a woman I’ll call Tammy. After nearly two years of waiting, she finally received notice that she’d been approved for Section 8 housing. She had remained clean and sober for over a year, fighting every day to rebuild her life. When the call finally came, she packed her few belongings into garbage bags, worn-out boxes, and ripped totes. As I watched her load those into a borrowed, beat-up car—smiling through joyful tears—I thought to myself: She deserves better.
She deserved more than just a roof. She deserved a home.
And she wasn’t alone. I began asking around—social service providers, case managers, shelters—and I kept hearing the same thing: furnishing a home was a huge barrier. Children sleeping on floors. Families storing clothes in trash bags. No table to gather around, no couch to rest on after a long day.
That’s when the idea for Renewed Furnishing was born.
Our mission is simple: to enrich lives and living spaces by providing household essentials to those seeking housing stability.
Whether it’s someone overcoming addiction, a single parent starting over, or a young adult leaving foster care—people deserve a fresh start that includes dignity, comfort, and the feeling of being truly at home. Thank you for reading.
